A "formal receipt" is an additional and optional receipt that can be printed after the payment for a transaction has been processed. This formal receipt is typically referred to as a ryoshusho (領収書). It is distinct from a regular receipt and is essential for business and tax purposes. It often provides a more comprehensive breakdown of the transaction than a regular receipt, and may include the following information:
- The title "Receipt" or "領収書"
- The transaction date
- The total amount paid, including tax
- A breakdown of the transaction, including tax information
- The name and address of the business issuing the receipt
- The business's registration number
- The name of the customer
